Ate here last Saturday lunchtime, my first visit. Sat in the conservatory with a view into the kitchen which meant I could see my course being assembled at the pass, which I enjoyed. Thought the room rather ordinary, even dull.

Had the £30 set lunch to include a half of house wine. Only two menus - you choose one with the desserts shared. Either meat/fish or the reverse.

Started with an amuse of hot sweet sour prawn in a shot glass with some salad, not dressed. Then a tartare of bream and salmon with a lemon and basil dressing, avruga(? - didn’t catch what the waiter said) and a sesame crisp. Very tasty. Bread arrived with this course including a very good tapenade brioche.

Next was spring chicken with cauliflower puree, curry oil, dried cauliflower, almonds. Like the previous dish, full of flavour and well presented.

I chose red wine, a merlot, generously poured from a full bottle. I probably had 50cl, not 37.5.

The pre-dessert was another shot glass with almond meringue, passion fruit cream and a mango jelly and was excellent as was the dessert. I chose rhubarb with vanilla pannacotta. These dishes were similar in concept and really interchangeable, apart from the smaller size of the former.

Service was competent, professional and friendly throughout. Mainly French staff. My only reservation concerned the petit four. These were brought with the dessert, before I had ordered coffee (extra £4) which I thought was unnecessary up-selling. Nevertheless they and the coffee were excellent. A waiter boxed up those I couldn’t eat to take home.

So, a very pleasant lunch. Total cost with service and the coffee was £38 which I think is pretty reasonable.
