It has been about 2 years since we have been to simpsons, and having neglected my wife for about 2 months and missed her birthday, I felt the best way to get back into favour was to treat her to a dinner here.

We went on Friday night, and on arrival were placed in the lovely bar area. Unfortunately the experienced was slightly tarnished by the loud Americans sitting near us who felt the whole bar area needed to hear about their lavish lifestyles. Nevertheless 2 glasses of fine champagne seemed to ease the pain and fortunately they left to their table 10 minutes later.

Anyways on to the food. For starters we both had scallops with a curry sauce and coconut foam. An interesting combination, which worked in a strange and delightful way, and the scallops were extremely sweet and tender. We had a good valued sauvingnon blanc to accompany.

Mains consisted of duo of lamb for myself which was perfectly cooked and disappeared rapidly. The wife had the duck, and having sneaked a taste was also perfectly cooked and delicious. We accompanied this with an argentinian red which complemented the duck more than the lamb (but it was her treat afterall).

Dessert consisted of a pre-dessert of something tasty and we decided on a cheese board which was outstanding and generously sized. This was followed by petit fours which, as expected, was a lovely end to the meal.

The service was not as sharp as peviously, however much less pretentious than previous visits, which on balance is probably better.

The bill came to a reasonable £185.

Having eaten at Claridges a few months prior, I felt that simpsons offers a superior dining experience which is better value for money and in fact the food was also much better.

Will definitely be back.
