Small Family Gathering |

A very warm welcome awaited us at this seemingly family-run restaurant near the Jewellery Quarter. I was there with a friend and my two children on Wednesday evening at around six o'clock when the only other party was a group of students from the nearby College of Law. The menu seemed sufficiently varied and interesting (we were also offered the reduced-price version). I have eaten Persian cuisine before so I knew what generally to expect and ordered the feta salad as a starter - fresh and delightful but so much of it that I had to use it as a side dish as well. My friend had the generous portion of houmous which came with plenty of fluffy warm pitta-style bread called khoubz.
For my main course I had lamb which reminded me of Greek Kleftika - extraordinarily succulent and mouthwateringly melting off the bone, accompanied by fragrantly perfumed Saffron Rice which I struggled to finish and copious helpings of hot gravy. My friend and the children had a variety of kebabs with rice, which all proved delicious. Everything was accompanied by mountains of fresh flat-leaf parsley, mint and the ubiquitous dill, which I happen to love.
No room for dessert but a few complimentary sweets accompanied the traditional Persian tea which was also offered to us gratis. I was staggered when the bill came though! £21 for four of us (including yoghurt-based and fizzy drinks) seemed ridiculously low but I calculated what we'd had and it was right. Fantastic value for money and I don't know whether it was the fresh herbs or the tea, but I enjoyed a wonderful night's sleep afterwards!
