Jazz fans can look forward to jumping and jiving with one of the hottest acts in the business at the Jam House in Birmingham next month (July). The popular live music and dining venue in St Paul’s Square will be hosting top Midland band the Jive Romeros on Thursday July 22 as part of its contribution to Birmingham’s 26th International Jazz Festival. The five-piece band is famed for recreating the jazz-swing small-band sound of the 1950s, giving a distinctly British twist to covers from the likes of Tony Crombie & the Rockets, Tommy Steele & the Steel Men, Bill Haley and Freddy Bell. The event is preceded by another not-to-be- missed jazz evening with the Bryan Corbett Quartet on Tuesday, July 20. The renowned young trumpet player, who has toured and recorded with Courtney Pine, Roy Ayres and Jim Miller, is returning by popular demand. Jim Simpson, Managing Director of Birmingham-based Big Bear Music Group, sponsor of the Birmingham International Jazz Festival, said: “We are delighted that the Jam House is helping to support the festival, as it has done for many years. The city will provide a hotbed for jazz artists from across the world from July 16-25.” Admission to the Jive Romeros gig is free before 9pm and just £5 after (tickets are £5 from www.thejamhouse.com) and the Bryan Corbett date is free all evening. The Jam House is also welcoming a bumper line of top quality acts performing a range of music for all tastes throughout July. These include all-time classics from Chris Poole & the Shades on Thursday, July 1, classic and contemporary rock anthems from Mr Ben on Friday to Saturday July 16-17, and a debut for classic funk band Muthafunk on Wednesday, July 28. Football fans can also enjoy live World Cup action on the big screen followed by live music from boogie-woogie star Dino Baptiste on Tuesday, July 6 and again before the piano and guitar delights of Lee Rogers and Oz McGowan on Wednesday, July 7. |
