Welcome to the June edition of What’s On at the Kitchen Garden Cafe. Some June highlights include:

The Retort Cabaret Show on Sunday June 6th featuring the fantastic Brian and Krysstal. "Legendary Brian Damage and top strangely straight-woman Krysstal are a one-off cross-genre act but they have echoes of The Bonzos, the heyday of music hall  and some rather seedy country and western club. Four stars I laughed like a drain" (Chortle - Edinburgh Festival), Al Rudge, one of the most original and bizarre acts to invade the comedy scene, and newcomer comedian Aaron Twitchen. Music comes from singer-Songwriters and Retort regulars, Oli Campion and Tara Parashar plus the usual eclectic mix of Music, Comedy, Poetry and Cabaret in Suburbia.

On Sunday 13th June, we host Jenni & Billy who will bring you captivating “New Old Songs” & stories, fine harmonies & excellent instrumental work all rooted in Appalachian culture. I’m so looking forward to this show, just hear what one reviewer has to say about them “They sound so natural together, it feels calming and clear. It’s as if you were there sitting on a back porch in the old-timey South and they were right there with you and just stumbled upon some instruments” (Nicole Levitz).

On Sunday 20th June we have a fantastic triple bill of alternative folk/pop music with a folky, summery feel, featuring,
The Momeraths who you may know from past Retort shows, “Sixties-style pop from a boy and girl team so innocent, you want to protect them from an industry that turns angels into gargoyles”; Stealing Sheep, a multinational trio from Norway, Canada and the UK, who support beautiful three-part harmonies with guitar, accordion, glockenspiel and an array of strange instruments culminating in wonky folk pop creations; and Big Hands Big Heart, awesome performers not to be missed. The rich sound they create is strong and sweet in equal measure.

Check out the listings for full details of the above shows, the rest of the June programme and some highlights for later in the year.

Finally, just a reminder that our Evening Restaurant will be launched on Saturday June 19th, in the meantime you can on preview the new menus on Thu/Fri/Sat evenings and give us your feedback prior to the launch.  You can see the Menus are on the website or, if you e-mail us, we can send you a copy.
