New Business in Harborne Attempts to Earn a Crust

Harborne is set to have another stab at becoming the gourmet centre of Birmingham with a soon-to-open artisan bakery in the name of Fallen Angel. The new business, which appears to be a partnership with the Business Hub at UCB will open shortly in the corner premises recently vacated by Davenports Clothes shop a few doors up from Turners. A website, which promises to keep us updated with news can be found at http://www.fallenangelbakery.com (although it is currently just a splash page with a scan of their leaflet) Despite it's affluent population, Harborne has struggled to support such businesses in the past. In recent years the long established and excellent fishmongers M A Price closed it's doors, with two subsequent businesses trying and failing to make a go of the premises as delicatessens (the most recent being OHO Organic). Maison Mayci also provided an excellent addition to the mix with their own highly regarded bread, pattisserie and cheese counter before decamping to set up a bistro in King's Heath. With a Michelin starred restaurant, an excellent Waitrose, arguably the best butcher in Birmingham in Roger Brown's, an established farmers market and now a promising bakers all Harborne needs to make it a worthwhile shopping destination would be a fish monger and a deli!
